Mizzou wins in-state showdown with Kansas City

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou Soccer has concluded its non-conference slate with a win.

The Tigers (3-3-1) earned a 1-0 victory over Kansas City (4-4-0), behind a goal from Mia Yang in the 3rd minute. MU will enter SEC action with wins in two of its last three matches.

Yang's score was assisted by Emily Derucki, who connected with her junior teammate on the first of Mizzou's 12 corner kick opportunities.

MU dominated possession of the ball and finished with 16 more shots than UMKC. The Tigers also outperformed the Roos in shots on goal by a 7-2 margin.

Goalkeeper Kate Phillips registered her third clean sheet of the season, recording two saves.

Up next - Mizzou opens its SEC schedule on Friday, Sept. 12 with a showdown against Texas at 7 p.m.
