Sunday Sit-down with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Eli Hoff
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
ABC 17 Sports Director Nathalie Jones brought on Eli Hoff, who is the Mizzou Athletic beat writer for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, in this week's edition of Sunday Sit-down.
Hoff helped break down Tiger football's rivalry win over Kansas, in the two programs' first meeting since 2011. He said among his biggest takeaways was Mizzou's ability to overcome adversity and show a bit of resilience out at Faurot Field, which is an important thing to test out at the beginning of the season.
After getting out to a six-point lead in the first quarter, Mizzou allowed Kansas to score 21 unanswered points to take a 15-point lead into the second quarter. However, the Tigers managed to flip the momentum and complete their largest comeback since 2015.
"You don't really know how as a team, as a locker room, as a roster or as an individual player you are going to respond in that moment. It's going it was going to happen at some point this season, but they got it out of the way week two and survived it and won that game. So, I think there's there's value to it, it's valuable to get that in a non-conference game, because that's certainly going to happen in some of these SEC teams," he said.
Outside of one fumble that led to a touchdown, Hoff said quarterback Beau Pribula had an efficient day against the Jayhawks. The Penn State transfer completed 77 percent of his passes for more than 300 yards and three touchdowns.
Head coach Eli Drinkwitz said there's still a lot of things they need to take off the top, but he's proud of Pribula's grit.
"It's strange because it's been his arm, right? We went into this year thinking, okay, Beau probably is going to run, run, run...and it's been his arm," Hoff said. "The stat for me that is really, really key is on third and fourth down last night, he was 15-for-18 for 177 yards and three touchdowns, on third and fourth down. That kind of just timely play making is huge for Mizzou."
