RECAP: Mizzou wins a bitter-sweet season opener
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Mizzou football team came out on the other side of week one 1-0, as the Tigers thrashed the Central Arkansas Purple Bears 61-6, on Thursday. However, that victory didn't come without a cost.
Quarterback Sam Horn and kicker Blake Craig each went down with an injury and did not return to action in the season opener. Both players have undergone MRIs and media members expect to learn more about their injuries during Tuesday's press conference with head coach Eli Drinkwitz.
Coach Drink did comment on what the reaction on the sideline was like when Horn went down on Thurday.
"Just devastated," he said. "Â You know, he was voted captain because his teammates care about him. You hurt for a young man because last year was taken away from him for a different reasoning and now this year he's gonna have to face another injury."Â
The injury to Horn brought an abrupt halt to the ongoing quarterback competition, as Penn State transfer Beau Pribula led the charge through most of the game.
The graduate transfer impressed in his Mizzou debut, as he completed about 82 percent of his passes for 283 yards and a couple of touchdowns. He also rans for 72 yards and another pair of touchdowns on 10 carries.
"It was something that I've been waiting for for a long time," Pribula said.
