Tracking a mild Thursday before dangerous heat returns

TONIGHT: Patchy fog developing overnight with lows in the mid-60s.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and comfortable with low humidity and highs in the mid-upper 80s.

EXTENDED: Winds remain out of the north-northwest tonight into Thursday, keeping dew points in the upper 60s and the heat index low. High pressure begins to build by Friday and extends through the weekend, not making much movement until early next week. Winds out of the south will drive more Gulf moisture into the region, sending dew points back into the low to mid-70s. That will push the heat index to the low 100s on Friday and to near 105 on Saturday and Sunday with highs in the low to mid-90s. We finally see the pattern begin to break down by the middle of the next week as the ridge begins to flatten a bit, allowing winds to flow from west to east and bring temperatures down a bit. Rain chances also begin to increase between Tuesday and Wednesday as disturbances roll over the region.
