Cardinals beat the rival Cubs in series rubber match; marks fourth win in six games

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)
In the third meeting between the two clubs in 2025, the St. Louis Cardinals finally put a mark in the series win column against their most bitter rival. After splitting and losing a series to the Chicago Cubs in the first half of the season, the Cardinals finally came out victories with a 3-2 win in Sunday night's rubber match.
The win came courtesy of some late heroics from Nolan Gorman, who ended up driving in the game-winning run in a tie game in the seventh inning out at Busch Stadium. An RBI single to right field, which scored Jordan Walker, ended up sealing the deal against the fourth-best team in Major League Baseball.
Skipper Oli Marmol and company also owe a big portion of the win to a clutch outing from starter Sonny Gray on the hill. He threw for seven innings to earn the win and only allowed two runs on five hits, while striking out seven batters and only walking one.
Closer JoJo Romero ended up pitching the final 1.1 innings for the Birds, as he recorded his third save of the 2025 season.
Up next - St. Louis will stay home to host the worst team in the MLB. The Colorado Rockies will be in town for game one on Monday, August 11 at 6:45 p.m.
