Tracking more sunshine and hotter conditions into the weekend

TODAY: Mostly sunny and hot, with highs in the lower 90s and a heat index between 100 and 105 degrees.

TOMORROW: Hot and humid, with a heat index above 100 degrees. Rain is possible Saturday night in northern Missouri, but much of the area will stay dry.

EXTENDED: Expect intense heat into the weekend, with no rain on Friday and Saturday. A slow-moving cold front approaching from the north will arrive late in the weekend as an upper-level ridge weakens, giving us a chance for a few showers and storms Saturday night into Sunday, with daily rain chances early next week. A significant cool down is not expected, as the highest rain totals will stay north of Mid-Missouri. Highs will reach the upper 80s from Sunday through next week, with a heat index in the mid-90s.
