Mizzou offensive lineman named to Outland Trophy watch list

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The preseason accolades never seem to end for Mizzou offensive lineman Cayden Green. On top of being named a preseason All-American and earning First-Team All-SEC preseason nods, the Lee's Summit native is now being watched for one of the most prestigious awards an interior lineman can get.
On Tuesday, Tiger football announced that the guard is on the preseason watch list for the Outland Trophy, which is given out to the best interior lineman in all of college football each season. For the past two years, Texas standouts have taken home the hardware, as tackles Kelvin Banks Jr. and T'Vondre Sweat won the award in 2024 and 2023, respectively.
Green is returning for year two in Columbia, in 2025, after making a splash in his first year in the black and gold. Throughout his career with the Tigers and the Oklahoma Sooners, he's tallied 1,504 snaps in 24 games, 18 of which were starts. In the 2024 season, alone, Green was an anchor on an offensive line that led the SEC and ranked seventh nationally in time of possession, while ranking fourth and seventh in the conference in tackles for loss allowed and sacks allowed per game, respectively. The Mizzou offense accumulated 2,138 rushing and 2,962 passing yards, as well as 26 rushing touchdowns with Green's presence on the offensive line.
Green's unit also found success in the red zone. The Tigers finished 10th nationally and second in the Southeastern Conference in red zone offense, as the group converted on 46-of-50 opportunities in 2024.
Entering his junior season, the lineman is set to be an anchor for head coach Eli Drinkwitz, once again, as one of two returning veterans on a new-look offensive line.
