Tracking a small break in heat with rain chances

TODAY: Today we're still under that Weather Alert Day criteria, as some areas could see heat index values reaching 105 or above. We'll be partly cloudy with an increase in rain chances by this afternoon.

TONIGHT: Most precipitation looks to stick up to our northwest, but we could see a few straggling showers dip into mid Missouri overnight. This would help to chill out our temperature just a little bit, with lows in the mid to lower 70s.

EXTENDED: The storms located to our northwest will stick around for a day or two, flooding may be possible in that portion of the state. Here in mid missouri we might get about a quarter of an inch of rain in some areas, but the main relief will be noticed in those heat index values. We will still be warm, but majority of us get a break from those 105+ heat indices. While today marks the last day of our previously issued Weather Alert Day, the heat does look to return by next week. This will bring back our ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day.
