Tracking dangerous heat Wednesday, rain possible by Thursday morning for some

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and muggy with lows in the lower to mid-70s.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and dangerously hot with highs in the low 90s and a heat index between 103-105.

EXTENDED: Dangerous heat continues with the heat index approaching 103-105 degrees the next two days. We could see a cluster of storms trying to work in from the north late tomorrow night into Thursday, especially for northern portions of the area north of Highway 24. That could keep temperatures a few degrees cooler for northern Missouri on Thursday. Thursday night into Friday, a similar set up takes shape, with some lingering cloud cover possible into Friday afternoon keeping highs in the low 90s. That bit of a cool down should keep the heat index below Weather Alert Day criteria in the upper 90s to around 100. Despite small shifts in the pattern, it's still expected to be very warm over the weekend with temperatures reaching the lower 90s both days, but dew points could climb back into the low to mid-70s by Sunday, pushing the heat index back to near 105. We'll be hot and humid into early next week before the pattern breaks down and rain chances return along a front by next Wednesday, potentially giving us a small break in the heat.
