Tracking storms with flooding potential, dangerous heat continues

TONIGHT: Storms north of Highway 24 could produce heavy rain and isolated strong wind gusts in two rounds; the first ending after sunset, with another round possible across northeast Missouri into early Monday morning. Lows in the lower to mid-70s.

TOMORROW: Storms early to the north with highs in the low to mid-90s. Heat index values reaching 103-106.

EXTENDED: Showers and storms have been training across northern Missouri along the edge of high pressure where a stalled boundary sits. Another round of storms is possible overnight into Monday morning, generally along Highway 36. Some of these storms could produce heavy rainfall and the potential for flooding as 2-3" of rain could fall. A Flood Watch is in effect for Macon, Audrain, Monroe, and Montgomery counties until 1:00 p.m. Monday. High pressure builds a bit farther north for the rest of the week, cutting off our rain chances and pushing temperatures into the mid-upper 90s. With dew points in the 70s, we'll see a heat index anywhere between 103-108 degrees through the end of the week. We may see the pattern break down a bit with a chance at some weekend rain, but highs are still expected to reach at least the low 90s through next weekend.
