Tracking the potential for severe storms tonight
TODAY: Friday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day as storms this evening may be severe. The ingredient for these storms are dependent on a lot of daytime heating, which we'll absolutely experience today with heat index values reaching in to the 100s.
TONIGHT: Our greatest storm threat occurs between 6pm tonight and midnight as a trough makes its way over the northern part of our area. Be prepared for strong winds, heavy downpour and the potential for hail as well. For all the details, read our ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day Blog.
EXTENDED: That cold front that passes through our area tonight will leave us a tad cooler for the weekend, but if you do plan on being outside be prepared for the potential pop up storm here and there as the threat doesn't look to go away until Monday. Highs in the 80s will keep us on track for summery temperatures, with humidity looking to add a few values to the heat index. After this weekend, we could see even more chances thanks to a southern flow by next Tuesday and Wednesday.
