Tracking triple digit heat indices and strong storms Friday

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and muggy with lows in the lower 70s.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and hot with a heat index between 100-103. Strong storms for areas north of Highway 24 by late afternoon into the evening. Some storms could bring gusty winds and isolated flash flooding.

EXTENDED: Tomorrow will be hot and humid ahead of a cold front with highs in the lower 90s and heat index values between 100-103. Storms begin to develop near the Iowa-Missouri border and will have the potential of strong winds and isolated flash flooding through Friday night for areas along and north of Highway 24. As the night wears on, storms gradually weaken as they slide southeast, and the severe weather threat will wane. The risk for severe storms in Columbia and Jefferson City will be low. A few scattered showers and storms could linger into Saturday as the front slowly slides south, with the best chance for rain on Sunday near this boundary across the southern half of Missouri. We'll be cooler for the weekend with highs in the low to mid-80s. Next week, the front lifts back north, keeping us dry on Monday and warming temperatures back into the upper 80s. We could see scattered storms between Tuesday and Wednesday as the front moves back south, eventually moving out of the area by Thursday and bringing some more comfortable air.
