Tracking summer heat for the Fourth

TODAY: Friday is warm and muggy, with a high near 90 degrees and the heat index in the mid-90s. Skies remain mostly sunny with a light southwest breeze.

TONIGHT: Spot showers are possible near Hwy 65 in the late afternoon, but almost everyone will stay dry for fireworks. Temperatures fall to the upper 70s before midnight with lows in the lower 70s.

EXTENDED: Isolated showers and storms are possible on Saturday ahead of a slow-moving cold front. The cold front arrives on Sunday morning, bringing more scattered storms into the afternoon. As the front stalls early next week, several disturbances will track along it, leading to daily chances for showers and storms, with a fair amount of dry time in between. An active pattern late next week will increase rain chances for the rest of the forecast. High temperatures will stay in the mid-80s, with the heat index near 90 degrees.
