Cardinals sweep the Diamondbacks with 4-3 win on Sunday

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)
The St. Louis Cardinals had a flare for the dramatics against the Arizona Diamondbacks over the weekend, but still managed to get the three-game sweep at Busch Stadium.
Skipper Oli Marmol and company beat Arizona 4-3 in the series finale to improve to 30-23 overall in 2025. With the victory, the Red Birds still sit in second place in the National League Central standings, just two games behind the rival Chicago Cubs.
The St. Louis youngsters came up with the biggest hits of the day in the sweep. Down 2-1 in the third inning, shortstop Masyn Winn lifted up his sixth home run of the season to tie the ball game. Then, in the sixth with St. Louis and Arizona knotted up at three, Victor Scott II drove in the tie-breaking run with an RBI single to right. That hit would turn out to be the eventual game-winner.
Pitcher Sonny Gray got the start on the bump for Marmol's group, but had a shaky six innings. He allowed three earned runs on nine hits and fanned five batters. However, John King and JoJo Romero locked things down in relief, pitching two-combined scoreless innings.
In the end, right-hander Phil Mayton ended up getting his second save of the season, as he closed out the win for St. Louis in the ninth.
Up next - the Cardinals will take a road trip up to Baltimore to meet the Orioles in a three-game set. First pitch in game one is set for 2:05 p.m. CT on Monday, May 26.
