Sources: Mizzou hoops set to hire new director of operations

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou men's basketball coach Dennis Gates continues to fill out the holes in his coaching staff.
On Saturday afternoon, a source told ABC 17 Sports that MU is set to hire former University of South Florida assistant coach Griffin McHone as the program's new director of operations. The hire comes after Mizzou's former director of ops, Dalon King, decided to follow former Tiger assistant coach Rob Summers to Cleveland State.
The Bulls gave McHone his first opportunity to work as an assistant coach, as he worked in South Florida for two seasons. Prior to his time in Tampa, the Texas-native spent time as the director of operations at Kennesaw State and served as a graduate assistant at Texas A&M.
McHone has coaching in his blood. His dad, Kimble McHone, has coached at Boerne High School since 2009, while his grandpa, Morris McHone, has been a college and professional basketball coach for more than 40 years, which includes a stint as the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs in 1983.
During his prep hoops career at Boerne High School, McHone was an all-state player and named an all-region and District MVP selection three, different times.
He is the second addition that Coach Gates has made to his coaching staff since the 2024-25 campaign wrapped up in March, joining former Duquesne assistant coach Steve Wright. The hires come after both associate head coach Charlton 'C.Y.' Young and Summers left the program at the end of the season for other opportunities.
In addition to the hires that Gates has made, he also promoted David 'Dickey' Nutt back to an on-the-court assistant coaching role, after Nutt beat cancer last year.
