Mizzou baseball falls to 13-31 overall with rivalry loss to Kansas

KMIZ

The Mizzou baseball team fell victim to a rivalry loss in enemy territory, on Tuesday night. No. 25 Kansas handed the Tigers a 9-3 loss, which dropped MU to 13-31 overall in 2025.

Despite getting an early jolt, courtesy of a solo home run in the first inning from Kaden Peer, skipper Kerrick Jackson's team didn't capitalize on enough opportunities to steal a win in Lawrence.

After the Tigers got up 1-0 in the first inning, the Jayhawks responded with a three-spot in the home half of the frame and never looked back from there. Kansas tallied 11 hits off of Mizzou's six pitchers, with four players registering at least one RBI.

On the flip side, Mizzou actually didn't get out-hit that badly, coming up with eight on the night. But, the Tigers were abysmal with runners in scoring position, going just 2-for-10 on the night.

Starting pitcher Josh Kirchhoff was handed the loss, after letting KU score four runs on four hits in just 1.0 inning of work. After he was pulled from the action, Jackson put in five more pitchers to try to hold of the Jayhawks' attack. Two of them, St. Elizabeth alum Brock Lucas and sophomore Josh McDevitt didn't give up any runs, but the other three combined to let four more Jayhawks cross home plate.

Through 44 games, the Mizzou pitching staff's Earned Run Average (ERA) sits at 9.63. Out of 299 Division I teams, the Tigers hold the 10th worst ERA in the nation.

Up next - the Tigers will dive back into SEC action with a home series against Georgia. The three-game start will begin on Friday, May 2 at 6 p.m. at Taylor Stadium. The Mizzou baseball team fell victim to a rivalry loss in enemy territory, on Tuesday night.
