Late 3-run homer lifts Braves over Cardinals for series win

ATLANTA, Ga. (KMIZ)

Atlanta outfielder Eli White delivered a blow that St. Louis couldn't recover from in the eighth inning of rubber match action, on Wednesday afternoon, as his 3-run homer lifted the Braves to a series win over the Cardinals.

St. Louis fell 4-1 in the series finale, after carrying a shutout in the seventh inning.

Starter Miles Mikolas gave skipper Oli Marmol six, good innings of work, on Wednesday. He struck out two batters and didn't allow any runs on six hits. However, the second he exited the ball game, Atlanta found a rhythm at the plate.

John King gave up the first run of the day in the seventh inning, which tied up the game at Truist Park. His outing was short-lived, as Kyle Leahy came in to finish out the seventh for him, punching out one batter and not allowing any more runs.

But, things went downhill in the eighth inning when JoJo Romero allowed the eventual game winner to get over the wall. White hit a rocket off of the red bird left-hander, sailing 434 feet into the upper deck in left field.

Although the pitching didn't hold up at the end of Wednesday's game, the Cardinals' outing at the plate left something to be desired, as well. Atlanta out-hit St. Louis 11-7, as third baseman Nolan Arenado was the only player to generate any offense in the first inning.

With the loss, the Cardinals have lost 13 out of their last 19 games, falling to 10-15 on the season.

Up next - St. Louis will return home for a series with the rival Milwaukee Brewers. First pitch in game one is set for 7:15 p.m. on Friday, April 25.
