Arrest in 1991 murder is long-overdue, Russellville residents say
RUSSELLVILLE, Mo. (KMIZ)
Cole County Sheriff John Wheeler and Prosecutor Locke Thompson announced Friday that a suspect was arrested in the 1991 killing of a Russellville teen, Greg Jones.
More than a dozen Russellville residents told ABC 17 News Tuesday they felt frustrated that the case took so long to yield an arrest.
"A lot of the community that I've spoken with has said that this is very long and overdue and that they feel like their main concern is that this young man whose life was cut so short will get his justice," said Russellville resident Lori Kirchner. "That's the biggest heartbreak for this community is that a young man of our community here in Russellville didn't get to finish out his life."
Jones was reported missing on April 24, 1991, and his remains were found by a neighbor on June 8, 1991, between Route D and Stringtown Road.
The case is still being reviewed by the Cole County Court's Juvenile Division, according to Juvenile Court Administrator Michael Couty. A certification hearing to declare the yet unnamed suspect as an adult is still pending.
