Car submerged, three in custody after multi-county chase ends in Boone County

BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Authorities apprehended three people after a multi-county, multi-agency chase ended near the Columbia Regional Airport.

Sgt. Scott White with the Missouri State Highway Patrol said Jefferson City police began pursuing a stolen SUV around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities received information on the car from a caller who reported a theft at Kohl's on 715 Stoneridge Parkway.

The caller provided a vehicle description, license place and the car's direction. Officers spotted the car traveling eastbound on Missouri Blvd and pulled it over. From there the suspect vehicle stopped at first, then sped away from the scene and onto Highway 54.

The vehicle did not stop and went north on Highway 63 into Boone County. From there, JCPD officers ended their chase, which was picked up Ashland police officers.

Troopers responded to assist, and the car turned onto Route H, near the Columbia Regional Airport. The car later went onto a gravel road off of New Salem Lane and three occupants got out and fled on foot.

The car, White said, "became submerged in a pond in the area."

The three were caught and taken into custody.

The driver, a 42-year-old from Columbia was taken into custody for stealing, resisting arrest and driving while revoked. A second passenger was also arrested for stealing and the third passenger was taken into custody by Boone County authorities for an unrelated warrant.

The driver and the second passenger were taken to the Cole County Jail to await a review of charges by the Cole County Prosecutor.

ABC 17 News crews saw Ashland officers, MSHP troopers, Boone County deputies, Jefferson City police and COU security at the scene on New Salem Lane.

Officials say there were no injuries and no damage to any other property during the pursuit.

The stolen items from Kohl's were worth an estimated total of $300.
