Man charged with assault in shooting of 78-year-old woman

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Dixon, Missouri, man was charged with four felonies on Wednesday after he was accused of shooting a 78-year-old woman in Pulaski County.
Jesse Ray Roberts, 31, was charged with first-degree assault, first-degree burglary, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. He was arrested in Springfield, Missouri, earlier this week and is being held at the Greene County Jail.
Previous reporting states that police were called to the 300 block of East 10th Street in Dixon around 6:25 a.m. Tuesday after the woman was shot. The probable cause statement says police found the victim sitting on a rolling walker while covered in blood with a wound on her forehead. The victim was brought to University Hospital in Columbia by ambulance. Police said earlier this week that she was stable.
Law enforcement saw a hole in the wall that led to an empty apartment. The statement says that the woman was shot by Roberts after he tore a hole in the wall and climbed through it. The gun allegedly belonged to the victim and Roberts took it when he left, the statement says.
Blood was found through the apartment and a substance found in Roberts’ apartment that tested positive for methamphetamine, the statement says. Police learned of Roberts’ phone number and were able to determine he was in Springfield based on the ping.
