Grand jury indictment filed on man accused of animal abuse

A grand jury indictment was filed on Friday against a Columbia man who was accused of animal abuse.
Deangelo Washington Jr. was charged with three counts of animal abuse. An arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, April 7. Washington was also charged in another case with misdemeanor unlawful transfer of a weapon. A criminal summons was issued in that case and a hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27.
According to the probable cause statement, multiple dead dogs were found at Washington’s residence after an anonymous complaint was made to his landlord. Animal Control. Received information about two dead pix mixes being found in a unit on March 14, 2024, the statement says.
The dogs appeared to be emaciated and previous complaints of animal abuse were filed against him, police wrote in the probable cause statement. Four dead dogs were found outside the property and “it was clear the dogs had suffered,” the statement says.
