Cole County man running for commission seat
CENTERTOWN, Mo. (KMIZ)
A new name entered the race for the Western District Cole County Commission seat.
Gary Bemboom announced he plans to run for the commissioner seat. It's the first time Bemboom has run for public office.
He said it's time for a new commissioner to serve the county.
"Cole County is a great place to live and I've always had a desire to see it grow," Bemboom said. "I just think it's time for a change."
Bemboom owns multiple businesses including several convenience stores, a heating and cooling company and a cattle farm.
Bemboom added his business experience would help him operate the county.
"I think having a small business will benefit me being a commissioner. I want to be the best steward of taxpayer money," Bemboom said.
He included that the county budget is a big priority after being elected.
Bemboom could faceoff against the incumbent commissioner, Kris Scheperle. He has been the western district commissioner since 2012.
ABC 17 News reached out to Scheperle to see if he plans to run in the election, but have not heard back.
The Missouri General Election is scheduled for Nov. 3. The last day to register in Cole County is Oct. 7.
