Jefferson City police arrest man as carport collapses

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City police arrested a man on Monday night as a carport collapsed.

Police wrote in a Wednesday press release that they arrived in the 1700 block of Sunset Court after getting a report of a man trying to get into vehicles. The victim’s garage door was opened and their garage door opener from their unlocked vehicle was missing, the statement says.

Officers found footprints near a metal carport in the 1800 block of Cedar Hill Road and arrested him as the roof of the port came down on them, bodycam and drone video shows. No injuries were reported.

Christopher Clemons, 41, of Jefferson City, was charged with first-degree burglary, resisting arrest and possession burglary tools. He is being held at the Cole County Jail without bond. An arraignment is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Cole County Circuit Court.
