Osage Beach nurse pleads guilty to stealing fentanyl from hospital
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
An Osage Beach nurses pleaded guilty on Monday to a federal drug charge, according to a press release from the Department of Justice.
Charles Welch Jr. 65, pleaded guilty to obtaining a controlled substance by misrepresentation, the release says. He was a certified registered nurse anesthetist at Lake Ozark Anesthesia – the release says – and provided services at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach.
Welch admitted to stealing Lake Regional Hospital from the automated dispensing cabinets located in the hospital’s operating rooms from July 1-Aug. 21, 2023, the release says. It says he took the drugs for personal use.
The release says that video footage allegedly showed Welch take fentanyl and put it in his pocket. The hospital was alerted after a pharmacy technician found the drug and other items in a drawer on Aug. 16, 2023, the release says.
