William Woods University President Jeremy Moreland will resign from his position in January, according to a Friday press release from the university.

The release says that Moreland – who joined the university in September 2021 – will leave to “pursue other professional opportunities.”

Moreland was president during a number of changes, including the groundbreaking for the school’s first new dorm in 20 years, increased freshmen enrollment in consecutive years and the introduction of the school’s football team and marching, pep and concert bands. The school also introduced its first PhD program in 2023.The school also sold 2.9 acres of land to Aldi earlier this year.

Moreland replaced Jahnae H. Barnett, who served in the role for 31 years.

The release says the Romaine Seguin has been picked as the acting president. Seguin is the chair of the Board of Trustees and has been in the role since 2019. The release says the university will conduct a national search to pick its next president.

“Under Dr. Moreland’s leadership, William Woods has broken institutional records for enrollment, created new degree programs and expanded the student experience,” Seguin said in the release. “We appreciate his many contributions in helping to move our University forward.”

Seguin has served on the board since 2011 and is a 1982 William Woods graduate, the release says. She has also served as president of UPS Global Freight Forwarding, as well as the CEO of Good360, the release says. She will not receive additional payment for serving as acting president, according to the release.
