Documents: Columbia police officer had blood-alcohol level over twice the legal limit
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia Police Department officer charged with drunken driving had a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit to drive, according to court documents.
Prosecutors charged Kyle Lucas, 51, on Thursday with driving while intoxicated. A Boone County deputy pulled Lucas over on Highway 63 after seeing Lucas speeding and making "several lane violations" on Feb. 2, according to a probable cause statement.
The deputy said he smelled alcohol and saw an open beer can in the vehicle's console. Lucas performed poorly on a sobriety test and had a blood-alcohol content of 0.179, according to the statement. The legal limit to drive is 0.08.
Lucas posted a $500 bond the night of his arrest and was released. A hearing is set for March 4.
The Columbia Police Department has refused to say whether Lucas has been suspended.
