Mizzou surpasses century mark in Show Me State showdown with Saint Louis
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou Women's Basketball has posted its highest point total in more than a decade. The Tigers nearly doubled up the Saint Louis Billikens on Wednesday night, winning 112-59 over their Show Me State rivals to extend their winning streak to three consecutive contests.
MU's 112 points scored was the program's highest total since the 2013 season when they dropped 120 points on Bradley.
The Tigers set the tone for a dominant performance in the opening quarter. MU started the game on a 7-0 scoring run, highlighted by a pair of buckets from Nyah Wilson. Then, shortly after, Mizzou tallied a 9-0 rally, giving the team a 15-point lead with three minutes left in the first quarter.
Head coach Robin Pingeton's team stayed locked in throughout the contest, leading by as many as 55 points in Wednesday's game, propelled by a 53.2% shooting effort from the floor and a 45.8% performance from three-point range.
Five different Tigers scored in double figures, led by sophomore Abbey Schreacke with a 19-point performance. The Quincy Notre Dame graduate also drained five three-pointers, giving Schreacke 20 triples in her last four games. Laniah Randle (15), Grace Slaughter (14), Angelique Ngalakulondi (11) and Ashton Judd (10) also reached double-digit points.
Collectively, 13 of the 15 players on MU's current roster appeared in Wednesday's game and all 13 of them scored at least three points.
Defensively, Mizzou showcased the intense, gritty identity that the team wants to be known for. The Tigers forced 24 turnovers, turning those takeaways into 31 points, and compiled 15 steals, six blocks and out-rebounded the Billikens 49-36. Those 49 rebounds were a season-high for the team.
