Mizzou women’s hoops holds off Tulane to get back to .500 on the season

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

It wasn't always pretty, but a win is a win, as the Mizzou women's basketball held off Tulane for a 60-52 win, on Tuesday night, to get back to .500 on the season.

You can watch the full postgame press conference with head coach Robin Pingeton and guards Grace Slaughter and Laniah Randle in the video player below.

The Tigers didn't have a particularly good shooting night against the Green Wave, but it was enough to get a mark in the win column.

Slaughter led the scoring attack for Pingeton's team with 22 points, 14 of which came in the second half. Randle and forward Angelique Ngalakulondi were the only other Tigers to get into double-digit scoring, finishing with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Pingeton's crew went into halftime with a seven-point lead over Tulane, but had some big adjustments to make. MU got out-rebounded 21 to 11 in the first two quarters and out-shot about 48 percent to 44 percent from the field.

Out of the locker room, Slaughter was the difference maker, going 5-for-7 from the field and 2-for-2 from 3-point range in the third and fourth quarters. Overall, Mizzou finished the game shooting about 41 percent from the field and 35 percent from 3-point range.

The Tigers were also able to turn around the battle of the boards, as well, tying Tulane in the rebounding column, each with 34.

Pingeton's team, who wants to make their presence known on the defense this season, forced 25 turnovers and scored 24 points off of those in the win. The group also tallied five blocks and 12 steals.

Up next - Mizzou will hit the road for the second time in the 2024-25 campaign to meet Western Illinois on Friday, Nov. 15. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
