Republican Jim Justice flips US Senate seat from West Virginia after Manchin retirement

Associated Press

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Jim Justice has won a U.S. Senate race from West Virginia, flipping a seat to the Republican Party. Justice defeated Democrat Glenn Elliott for the seat being vacated by Sen. Joe Manchin. Justice is finishing up his second term as governor. He was elected as a Democrat in 2016, then switched parties seven months after taking office. Justice’s family also owns dozens of businesses, including the posh Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia. Elliott is a former mayor of the city of Wheeling and was endorsed by Manchin. Manchin has been in office since 2010. He decided not to seek reelection and switched from Democrat to independent earlier this year.
