St. Elizabeth’s power surge leads team to Class 1 state title

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KMIZ)

St. Elizabeth has been crowned state champions for the first time in 13 years. The Hornets tormented Gallatin's pitching staff on Saturday morning, putting double-digit runs on the scoreboard to earn an 11-1 win in the Class 1 State Championship.

Head coach Sheila Oligschlaeger's group did most of its damage in the 3rd inning, scoring eight runs in that frame to build a commanding 10-0 lead. St. Elizabeth did allow one run in the fourth inning but proceeded to win the Class 1 state title in run-rule fashion with a walk-off double from Reagan Wobbe.

Riley Hammond posted a three-RBI afternoon at the plate and tossed five innings in the circle, allowing just one run on two hits with eight strikeouts. Wobbe, Addison Doerhoff, Kinley Kemna, Allie Williams and Olivia Oligschlaeger each posted two hits in the contest.

St. Elizabeth ends the season with a 30-2 overall record and its fifth state championship in program history.
