Four more Dove Drive shooting suspects see murder charges upgraded to first-degree

Four more men are now charged with first-degree murder in a June 2023 fatal shooting on Dove Drive in Columbia.

Deazes Turner, 22, is charged with first-degree murder, three counts of armed criminal action and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon after a superseding indictment was filed Friday. He is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. His next court date has not been set.

Alqueze Jones and Deljuan Turner, both 20, of Columbia, also saw their second-degree murder charges upgraded to first-degree murder, Boone County Prosecutor Roger Johnson wrote in an email response to questions. A superseding indictment is expected to appear on Casenet later, Johnson said. Both are being held at the Boone County Jail without bond.

Turner has a hearing set for 8:30 a.m. Dec. 2.

Damarkus Williams, 19, also had his charge upgraded to first-degree murder to go along with unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action, Johnson wrote. He is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. A hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Dec. 2.

Johnson wrote that an arraignment for the new charges should occur next week.

Ja’Shaun Barney, 19, of Columbia, saw his charge upgraded to first-degree in May. He’s now charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree vehicle tampering in the death of Deshon Houston, 33, outside a home on Dove Drive on June 26, 2023.

Barney is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. His next hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Bryton Allen, 21, pleaded guilty in June to second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He was also sentenced to four years in prison on Nov. 27, 2023, in another case. He pleaded guilty to resisting arrest in 2021 and was initially sentenced to probation.

Allen was initially charged with second-degree murder but saw the charge upgraded in May to first-degree before pleading guilty to the lower charge.

Jajuan Crocket, 21, was charged with first-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action, first-degree vehicle tampering, accessory to stealing a gun, stealing $750 or more and tampering with evidence. A hearing is scheduled for 1:55 p.m. Nov. 8.

He is being held at South Central Correctional Center, according to Missouri Department of Corrections records.

Crockett's probation was revoked in another case and he was sentenced to six years in prison on Dec. 29, 2023. He pleaded guilty in 2021 to drug possession and was initially sentenced to probation. In another case, he pleaded guilty to stealing and was sentenced to probation. His probation was revoked in November 2023 and he was sentenced to four years.
