MU officials: Private shuttle service plans to run despite extreme cold

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

After a private shuttle company caused the University of Missouri to shut down in 2019, MU officials say they are prepared to run in the cold Thursday and Friday.

Green Way Shuttles is a private shuttle service that runs routes for several student apartment complexes, including Brookside Townhomes and the Arch.

On Jan. 30, 2019, the University of Missouri canceled classes shortly after 7 a.m., less than an hour before some were scheduled to start.

The university said that “issues with a private contractor shuttle service” caused MU to cancel the classes. The shuttle service provider was apparently unable to operate in the extreme cold.

MU spokesman Christian Basi said he confirmed with the shuttle company that it will be running Thursday, despite the sub-freezing temperatures in the forecast.

Students at the Arch Apartments in Columbia already received a message about shuttle delays for Wednesday, however.

"The shuttle is running behind/off of schedule due to weather and road closures," the message to students said.
