COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Missouri Task Force 1 is continuing its search efforts along streams and rivers in North Carolina as part of Hurricane Helene relief efforts.

A Monday social media post from the Boone County Fire Protection District says that the Task Force was searching Avery County, North Carolina.

“This morning, the team returned to the same area with Human Remains Detection (HRD) K9 teams, to continue secondary searches of damaged and destroyed structures as well as large debris piles. This is long tedious work and the delayering of these piles is very dangerous,” the post says. “MO-TF1 remains dedicated to its mission in Avery County and expects to complete this assignment on Tuesday and will likely have a rest day on Wednesday while authorities reevaluate their needs in NC.”

Task Force 1 was dispatched for Hurricane Helene relief nearly three weeks ago. Some members have returned home.
