Work on Highway 63 in Columbia moved to Wednesday

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Work to redesign the Interstate 70/Highway 63 connector in Columbia will begin on Wednesday, a Friday press release from the Missouri Department of Transportation says.

Work was originally expected to begin on Monday.

The interchange work includes building two new bridges on Highway 63. MoDOT says Highway 63 traffic between the Broadway overpass and the Conley Road underpass will be narrowed and routed head-to-head while the work continues.

Two lanes will be open in each direction in the northbound lanes, but narrowed to 10-feet wide with a lower speed limit. Highway 63 ramps will remain open but will be reconfigured, MoDOT says.

Rebuilding the interchange is part of a broader project to widen Interstate 70 through much of the state, starting with the stretch between Kingdom City and Columbia. The full project is budgeted at $2.8 billion and will improve about 200 miles of interstate.
