Mizzou volleyball standout earns SEC weekly honors

In her first two games playing in the Southeastern Conference, Mizzou outside hitter Mychael Vernon put the league on notice. On Monday, the conference tabbed Vernon as the Offensive Player of the Week, following two big outingss on SEC-opening weekend.
It is the first SEC weekly honor of Vernon's career.
Vernon, a graduate transfer from Oregon State, combined for 43 kills on a .407 hitting percentage, along with 18 digs sand five blocks across two matches against LSU and Texas A&M.
The New York native averaged about five kills per set on conference opening weekend, as she put up back-to-back career games against the Baton Rouge Tigers and the Aggies.
On Friday, Vernon had 17 kills on a career-best .640 hitting percentage in the sweep over LSU. She followed that up with another staggering, career performance, on Sunday. Vernon matched her career-high of 26 kills in the five-set loss to Texas A&M, also adding on 11 digs, four blocks and two assists. Her 26 kills are the most registered by a Tiger, so far, in the 2024 season.
Vernon now ranks fifth in the Southeastern Conference for kills and sixth for points.
