This presidential election season has already been marred by political violence.

Former president Donald Trump was injured when a would-be assassin opened fire at a Pennsylvania rally. Then last week, authorities say they captured a gunman outside Trump's Florida golf course as he was lying in wait for the former president.

The incidents have heightened tensions, with Republicans blaming Democratic rhetoric and Democrats pointing to Trump's own statements and actions.
