New York site chosen for factory to build high-speed trains for Las Vegas-California line

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (AP) — A site in New York state has been chosen to build trains for a new high-speed rail line being constructed between Las Vegas and the Los Angeles area. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Monday that Siemens Mobility will build a 300,000-square-foot facility in Horseheads, New York. The manufacturing site is about 60 miles west of Binghamton in New York’s Southern Tier region. The factory will create about 300 jobs and construction of the trains is expected to begin in 2026. The American Pioneer 220 trains are expected to hit speeds of 186 mph on the new line. It’s expected to be finished in time for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
