QUESTION OF THE DAY: Have Columbia city leaders been guilty of inaction on downtown crime?

University of Missouri President Mun Choi continued his campaign for the City of Columbia to do more to address issues of crime and homelessness downtown on Wednesday at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast.

Choi urged the business leaders there to contact city officials and to demand results. And in emails obtained by ABC 17 News, Choi accused city leaders last month of "continued inaction" related to incidents on East Walnut Street.

On that particular issue, city leadership responded that there was no legal basis to restrict parking along Walnut Street. The city government has also commissioned studies of violent crime and created new "safety ambassadors" to help address incidents downtown before they escalate.
