Tracking wintry mess with rain and snow by Wednesday

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with a few flurries or snow showers possible south of Highway 50. Little to no accumulation expected. Lows in the upper 20s to around 30.

TUESDAY: Cloudy and seasonably cool. Highs in the upper 30s to low 40s.

EXTENDED: A closed low pressure system across the Baja region of California will move in our direction over the next few days, increasing moisture and forcing up precipitation into Missouri by late Tuesday night into Wednesday. With temperatures just below freezing on Wednesday morning, we'll start off with snow showers moving in from south to north. Temperatures rise above freezing during the day, and we'll see a change over from snow to cold rain for most of Mid-Missouri. As much colder air moves in late in the day on Wednesday, rain will change back to snow, and this is when we could see the most accumulation from this system. There will likely be a sharp cut off between snow and rain Wednesday evening, leaving a small distance between a few inches of snow and no accumulation at all. As of Monday evening, it appears this line will be generally along I-70. Keep in mind the forecast could waver a bit as the storm system gets closer and we have a better idea of the track. Thursday will be much colder with highs right around 20 and lows falling into the single digits. We remain dry through Friday with warmer air moving in for the weekend as temperatures climb back into the 40s. More rain could threaten by Saturday night into Sunday.
