Man accused in deadly shooting outside Plush Lounge due in court Monday

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man accused in a deadly shooting outside Plush Nightclub will face a judge 8:30 am.m Monday at the Boone County Courthouse.

Kimo Spivey, 34, is accused in the 2023 shooting death of Melvin Hooker III outside of Plush Nightclub before it was closed down.

In May, Spivey's charges were upgraded from second-degree murder to first-degree along with three counts of unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.

Two other men are also charged in the shooting. Samuel Moss Jr., 29, of Columbia, pleaded guilty in April to unlawful use of a weapon and was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the charge. Justin Lamar Simpson, 41, was charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of armed criminal action and illegal gun possession.

According to the report, a witness told police that Hooker was involved in an argument with a group of people then went to his car to get a gun. Moss allegedly had a gun drawn and walked towards Hooker.

Spivey was then allegedly seen walking towards the direction of Hooker and began shooting at him.
