Wacha’s seven-inning shutout lifts Kansas City to a series sweep

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Michael Wacha gave Kansas City fans a couple of good reasons to celebrate, on Sunday. The pitcher lifted his team to a shutout win over the Twins, which earned KC the series sweep. He also threw his way to his 100th career win.

Wacha threw seven innings of shutout baseball, facing the minimum for his final six innings of action. The dominant outing lifted him to 12-7 in 2024, as he struck out seven batters and didn't allow any runs on just four hits.

With an outing like that, not a whole lot of offense was needed from skipper Matt Quatraro's team. In fact, all it took was a sacrifice fly from Garrett Hampson and an RBI single from Salvador Perez in the fifth inning to give Kansas City a 2-0 win.

The win was an important one for divisional standings. The Royals secured a 2.5 games lead over Minnesota in the central division of the American League. KC now trails the first-place Guardians by just 2.5 games, as well.
