Court documents: Columbia shooting was result of drug deal

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A shooting in Columbia on Friday was the result of a drug deal, according to court documents filed on Monday.

Police responded to a shots fired call at Club Village Drive around 6 a.m. on Friday. Officers found Jaden Hoelscher, 21, of St. Peters, walking nearby on Green Meadows Road near Canterbury Drive, and he matched the suspect description, court documents said.

Hoelscher told police he was at the residence to buy marijuana, and his drug dealer pulled a gun on him and tried to rob him, court documents said. Hoelscher then told police he fired a round at his dealer before running away.

Police searched Hoelscher's backpack and found multiple items that had been reported missing from vehicles such as a graphing calculator, library book and other items.

No one was hurt in the shooting.

Hoelscher was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. He was being held in the Boone County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
