Columbia man sentenced to 18 years in prison after arson plea

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man pleaded guilty in court Friday morning and was sentenced 18 years in prison after being arrested in June 2023 following a fire and a 16-hour manhunt.

Brandt Feutz, 34, pleaded guilty to second-degree arson, first-degree harassment, two counts of resisting arrest, unlawful gun possession, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

In June 2023, Feutz shot multiple bullets into his mother's home and set fire to his mother's garage in the 600 block of Huntridge Drive, he fled the scene and resulted in a 16-hour manhunt, prosecutors alleged. Residents were asked to shelter in place for more than three hours as the Columbia Police Department searched the neighborhood of Old Hawthorne and surrounding areas.

Feutz was found on the north side of Boone County hiding in a residence.

Fuetz will take credit for serving 428 days, resulting in about 17 years in prison after the guilty plea.
