Tracking potential for flooding and storms before the weekend
TODAY: Showers and storms are forecast this morning through the early afternoon. With efficient rainfall rates and potential for repetitive rain, we will have some potential for flooding. We are warmer today, but with rain and clouds, we still expect highs to be below average, in the low 80s.
TONIGHT: Rain lets up this afternoon, and we'll stay dry with partly cloudy skies through the overnight. After 3 a.m. showers and storms will approach from the west. These showers and storms may bring an isolated threat for hail and gusty winds, but largely moderate to heavy and lightning will be the main threats.
EXTENDED: This rain continues in a widespread manner through the morning hours Thursday, leaving us cloudy for much of the morning, but clouds will likely break in the afternoon before the passing of our cold front. This cold front may have trouble generating storms in mid-Missouri due to an atmosphere that may be worked over from the morning. If we do see storms develop Thursday afternoon, we could see them become severe, posing primarily a hail and wind threat although a tornado threat can not be ignored. We'll be warm, in the low 90s Thursday afternoon. Over the weekend, we're mostly dry, with a chance for passing showers Saturday night through Sunday morning. Highs are in the 80s Friday through early next week.
