New inclusive park to be built in Holts Summit
HOLTS SUMMIT, Mo. (KMIZ)
The City of Holts Summit and Callaway County Special Services announced on Wednesday a new partnership to build an inclusive park.
According to a press release from the City of Holts Summit, the city is investing $150,000 while Callaway County Special Services is contributing $75,000 towards building the park.
"This collaborative effort aims to transform the city's current ADA park into a state-of-the-art inclusive park, ensuring that children of all abilities can play, learn, and grow together," the release states.
According to minutes from a City of Holts Summit Board of Alderman meeting on May 14, a motion was passed to use $125,000 of the city's American Rescue Plan Act funding to match a grant. City Administrator Brandon Ruediger told ABC 17 the Board of Alderman approved another $25,000 at a meeting held on Tuesday night.
The park will include a poured-in-place rubber surface, inclusive playground equipment and a new safety fence, according to the release.
The city's Facebook page states the new park will be built next to the current ADA Accessible playground at Hibernia Park. None of the current ADA Accessible equipment will be removed from the park.
“This new park will not just be for one particular age group or groups of individuals," City Administrator of Holts Summit Brandon Ruediger said in the release. "It is being designed to supplement the existing park's equipment with the idea that ALL ages and groups of individuals will be able to come to Hibernia Park and enjoy the outdoors."
The city plans to share information about a groundbreaking ceremony on its Facebook page and website.
