Columbia Planning and Zoning Commission expected to deny Humane Society request

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia'a Planning and Zoning Commission is expected to deny Central Humane Society's request to build on a plot of land.

The owners of "Central Humane Society" is requesting nearly 19 acres of land that is located northwest of the intersection of Brown School Road and Highway 763. Also included in that plat of land is the 1000 block of Brown School Road.

This is request is on or near a single-family residential area. The proposed zoning would mean intense commercial development and would cross into the residential area.

This is prompting the commission to not support the humane society's request for that plat of land. Another reason the commission could possibly deny this request is also the fact that the land is not within the city's corporate limits.

Columbia's Planning and Zoning Commission will be holding a meeting Thursday night to discuss this request. This meeting is open to the public and will be at City Hall at 7 p.m.
