Victim in Sedalia shooting dies, police seek first-degree murder charges against two men
SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Sedalia Police Department has confirmed in a Tuesday press release that the victim of an April shooting in Sedalia died in late May.
Police did not state the name of the victim, but said she died from her injuries. Two men were charged in relation to the shooting in the 400 block of North Prospect Avenue.
Bear Hagston, 23, of Sedalia was arrested in April and charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held at the Pettis County Jail without bond. A hearing was set for Tuesday afternoon.
Kyle Henley, 29, of Sedalia, was arrested on Tuesday in the 1400 block of South Harrison Avenue by police and the Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force as law enforcement executed a search warrant, the release states. He was charged in April with accessory to first-degree assault, accessory to armed criminal action, accessory to unlawful use of a weapon and hindering a felony prosecution.
An arraignment was held for Henley on Tuesday. A counsel status hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 25. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
Police wrote in the release that updated charges are being forwarded to the Pettis County prosecutor’s office. Law enforcement is seeking first-degree murder charges on both men.
According to previous reporting, Hagston allegedly shot a woman in the neck in the 400 block block of North Prospect Avenue. The victim was flown to a hospital with a gunshot wound. A witness told investigators that Hagston and the victim had been fighting in their front yard before the shooting, court documents say.
The witness saw Hagston run after the shooting and police found a partially loaded pistol magazine at the scene, court documents say. Three other men were arrested and placed on 24-hour holds for drug possession.
Additional court documents claim Henley gave Hagston the gun that was used in the shooting. The heavily redacted probable cause statement claims Henley drove Hagston to-and-from the scene.
