Man charged after allegedly pushing woman off bridge in Fulton park
FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Fulton man was charged on Thursday after he allegedly pushed a woman off a bridge in Memorial Park in Fulton on Wednesday, according to court documents.
Timothy Lee Stewart, 48, was charged with first-degree domestic assault, first-degree property damage and two misdemeanors: First-degree trespassing and violating a restraining order. The probable cause statement says Stewart is under the supervision of the Missouri Department of Corrections.
According to the probable cause statement, Fulton police officers were called to Memorial Park in regards to a person falling off a bridge. The victim was found lying on her side in a creek near the bridge, the statement says. The victim allegedly told officers that Stewart pushed her. Stewart was found shortly after. The victim was brought to an area hospital.
The victim had a restraining order against Stewart and he also had a trespass warning for Memorial Park that was set to last through July 15, the statement says.
Two witnesses spoke with police, the statement says. One victim allegedly told law enforcement that they saw the victim and Stewart arguing about 15 minutes before police were called. The witness saw Stewart run up a hill from the creek and asked for someone to call 911, the statement says. While Stewart was near the victim, the victim apparently said Stewart didn’t touch her, but said she was pushed after he left, the statement says.
A second witness stated they saw a couple arguing on the bridge as they walked by, according to court documents. That witness said he saw Stewart run up a hill, claiming the woman fell, the statement says. The witness allegedly told police that Stewart stayed with the victim until he saw police arrive, which is when he tried to run away, according to court documents.
Court documents say the victim had fractures to her spine and tailbone, as well as a concussion.
At the Fulton Police Department, Stewart allegedly was slamming his head against a cell wall, and when officers attempted to put him in a patrol vehicle, he head-butted a passenger door and put a dent in it, the statement says. The cost to repair was estimated at $1,200, according to court documents.
Stewart allegedly told police that he knew of the restraining order, but he had seen the victim as he was walking over the bridge, according to the statement. Stewart allegedly told law enforcement that he tried to ignore the victim, but he stayed near them while he was lighting a cigarette, the statement says. He then denied pushing the victim, according to court documents.
