Jefferson City man charged with attempted rape, attempted child molestation
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Jefferson City man was charged on Thursday with attempting to sexually assault two people on two separate days.
Jimmie Sanders, 60, was charged with first-degree attempted rape and first-degree attempted child molestation. He is being held at the Cole County Jail without bond. A court date has not been set.
According to one of the probable cause statements in his case, he tried to sexually assault someone at a residence on Feb. 19. The statement says he knew the victim’s family and was allowed to be in the residence. He allegedly tried to sexually assault the victim, but they were able to fight him off.
The victim had told someone, who is described as a witness, to pick up Sanders from the residence, the probable cause statement says. While the witness was driving Sanders in their vehicle, the victim had sent the witness a text message describing the assault, the statement says. The witness then kicked Sanders out of their car and ceased contact, according to the statement.
In a probable cause statement, Sanders is accused of trying to sexually assault a child on Wednesday. The statement says the child was walking their family’s dog while Sanders was sitting on a porch at an apartment. Sanders allegedly urged the child to come near him and grabbed the front of their pants, the statement says. The child got away and told their parents. The probable cause statement says Sanders was arrested at 10:05 p.m.
