Cole County deputy attacked by dog in Centertown
CENTERTOWN, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Cole County deputy is recovering after he was attacked by a dog while on call Friday afternoon.
At 6 p.m. Friday, two deputies responded to a domestic and property destruction call in the 11900 block of Main St. in Centertown, according to a press release from the Cole County Sheriff.
When deputies arrived, the subject opened the door to speak with the deputies when a dog ran out of the home, jumped and bit one of the deputies in the hand then charged toward the other, states the release.
The non-injured deputy fired a round at the dog. The dog continued to approach the second deputy, prompting him to fire another round, killing the dog.
The injured deputy was treated and released from the hospital. The dog that was killed was taken to the Jefferson City Animal Shelter for testing, according to the release.
One man was arrested on the scene for fourth-degree domestic assault and property destruction. He is currently on a 24-hour hold at the Cole County Jail.
